    Shahdol district came into existence on 14th November 1956 with the constitution of New State of Madhya Pradesh. Till 1960 Courts in Shahdol District were under the administrative control of Rewa District Judge. But from 1960 onwards till 13th November 1969 the administrative control of Courts in Shahdol. District was with District Judge Bilaspur presently in state of Chhattisgarh.

    Till April 1962 no Court of Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate was functioning at Shahdol District Headquarter, Two Courts of Civil Judge and Judicial magistrate First Class were functioning at Burhar which is 23 Km away from Shahdol District Headquarter.

    In May 1962 one Court of Civil Judge Class-II and Judicial Magistrate First Class was shifted from Burhar to Shahdol and its first Presiding Officer was Shri S.K.Pandey. In 1962 no court building was available for the court of Civil Judge functioning at Shahdol due to which the court of Civil Judge started its functioning in the four rooms of District Jail Shahdol situated in the front side of jail building. In District Jail Building Courts functioned till 13th November 1969.

    The construction of present District Court Building Shahdol commenced in the year 1967-68 and it was completed in the year 1969. On 18th November 1969 present district court building was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri P.V.Dixit.

    The Shahdol Judicial District came into existence vide gazette notification no.8113III-10-19-59 I dated 15th October 1969 on 14th November 1969 when its First District & Sessions Judge, Shri K.K.Verma took over as District & Sessions Judge, Shahdol. Shri K.K.Verma was later elevated as a Judge of M.P.High Court.
